Billions of bases, millions of sequences, thousands of
genes: how do they all work together to form living
beings? How does their working together lead to a turnip
in one case and a mouse in another? Answers to these and
related questions require the ability to analyze large
amounts of information. Biological information handling
and analysis is the realm of bioinformatics. Oklahoma
State University (OSU) scientists have help in dealing
with the flurry of new information through a
Bioinformatics resource facility, BioinfOSU, recently
established at OSU. It cooperates closely with the
Recombinant DNA/Protein Resource Facility and the OSU
Microarray Core Facility, facilities that help generate
the reams of information that must be dealt with.
